Mia DelCasino was born in New York and raised in Bucks County Pennsylvania. Upon finishing her degree in Media Communications, she moved to Southern California to pursue a career as a professional artist. She worked as an artist and designer on an interactive software project at UC San Diego and moved on to a career as an artist for Sony Online Entertainment, a major gaming company creating immersive worlds of fantasy combined with reality.

Photography is DelCasino's chosen medium for creative expression allowing her to portray reality as she sees it and to pass the experience of her vision to others. "A photograph elongates time for me. The moment captured is extended, reaching far beyond the frame".


The pieces featured on this site are taken from two separate bodies of work. The "paint" section features pieces from a body of work entitled "Colore e Luce Danzante" meaning "Dancing Color and Light". DelCasino uses her camera as a paintbrush to objectively record visual reality in terms of transient effects of light and color. These images reflect an impressionist approach to the art of photography.


The "structure" section features pieces from a body of work entitled "Rite of Passage" influenced by Zen Buddhism. DelCasino juxtaposes order and chaos to create a mood of serenity and peace. Long exposures convey a sense of calm as strong structural elements carve out a sanctuary from the surrounding discord. "each pier is its own gateway to inner peace, self awareness and introspection.…they are pillars of strength in an ocean constantly in flux".
